128×64 Serial COG Display Module

A chip-on-glass graphic module driven over a serial interface, for instruments where board space is the constraint.

The requirement

The instrument needed a graphic readout — text lines plus a bar graph — but the board had no room for a chip-on-board assembly, and the controller only had a serial port free.

What we supplied

  • COG module with the controller bonded directly to the glass, keeping the outline thin
  • Serial interface matched to the host controller, so no extra driver IC on the board
  • Backlight integrated into the module
  • Mounting and pinout defined against the enclosure drawing

Why COG

Bonding the chip to the glass removes the PCB of a COB module, which is usually the difference between fitting the enclosure and redesigning it.
