Case study
LCD for a Digital Welding Machine
High ambient temperature, metal dust and vibration: a display that keeps its contrast next to the welding current.

The requirement
A welding machine is a hostile place for a display: heat from the power stage, conductive dust and constant vibration. The operator also wears a helmet, so the viewing direction and contrast matter.
What we supplied
- Segment layout for current, voltage and mode, sized to be read through a helmet visor
- High-temperature fluid and polarizer for the internal ambient temperature
- Mechanical mounting that keeps pressure even under vibration
- Anti-static structure with a closed ITO grounding path
Why segment LCD
Welding parameters are a fixed set of digits. A segment display gives better contrast in a bright workshop than a small matrix module, with a simpler sealed assembly.
