Outdoor, backlit and always on: status, power and price information that has to be readable from a car window.

The requirement

Charging piles live outdoors, run continuously and must be read from a distance — from inside a car, in rain or in low sun.

What we supplied

  • Large digit layout for power, price and charging time, with status icons
  • Transmissive display with a bright, even backlight for night reading
  • Wide temperature range and UV-resistant polarizer for outdoor installation
  • Connector and pinout matched to the pile controller

Design note

For outdoor equipment, the backlight driver has to be designed against the temperature extremes: LED forward voltage rises in the cold, so a driver specified only at room temperature can under-drive the display on a winter morning.
