Segment LCD for a Gas Alarm Detector

Four digits of concentration plus alarm state, on a device that has to be readable in the dark and trusted in an emergency.

The requirement

A gas detector must communicate two things instantly: the concentration and whether the alarm is active. It is often installed in a kitchen or a plant room where lighting cannot be relied on.

What we supplied

  • Four-digit concentration field with unit and alarm indicators
  • Backlight with a defined colour for the alarm state, so the message does not depend on reading the digits
  • Wide operating temperature for unheated plant rooms
  • Reflective structure with a low-current backlight for battery-backed models

Design note

In safety products the display is part of the warning system. We agree the alarm indication (colour, flash, segment set) with the customer before tooling, and verify it on the sample batch.
