Case study
LCD for a Coating Thickness Gauge
A measurement in micrometres with statistics, on a handheld instrument used in workshops and on site.

The requirement
A coating thickness gauge shows a value in micrometres, plus the running statistics an inspector needs (mean, min, max, number of readings). It is used one-handed, in a workshop or outdoors.
What we supplied
- Segment layout with a dominant value field and a statistics row
- Transflective structure so it stays readable outdoors and under workshop lighting
- Compact outline and connector for a handheld housing
- Clear measurement-mode and battery indicators
Why segment LCD
The value, the unit and the statistics are a fixed set of fields. A segment display keeps the contrast high and the current low, which is what a handheld instrument used all day actually needs.
