Side-Entry LED Backlight Unit

Light injected from the edge so the panel stays thin, with the light guide matched to the customer outline.

The requirement

The housing allowed only a few millimetres behind the panel, which rules out a bottom-lit arrangement with a diffuser gap.

What we supplied

  • Side-entry light guide with the LEDs on one edge
  • Reflector and diffuser stack tuned for the required uniformity
  • Brightness and colour temperature agreed against a measured sample
  • Outline matched to the panel aperture

Trade-off to know about

Edge lighting keeps the assembly thin, but it is less forgiving than bottom lighting on large areas: the guide thickness and the LED pitch have to be right from the start.
