The requirement

A wall thermostat is a long-life product: it stays installed for a decade, is looked at from a standing position and must be legible in a dim hallway.

What we supplied

  • Segment layout with a large room-temperature field and a secondary setpoint field
  • Schedule, heating and holiday indicators
  • Transflective structure with a low-current backlight
  • Outline matched to the wall plate, with the buttons around the display

Design note

For wall-mounted products the viewing direction is decided by the mounting height, not by the designer. Fixing it at drawing review avoids a polarizer change later.
