Case study
Segment LCD for a Dishwasher Control Panel
A compact 6–10 mm glass outline that had to grow without changing the front panel design, with a high-contrast layout readable through a tinted window.

The requirement
The appliance maker needed a segment display that fits behind a dark control window and stays readable at an angle, while keeping the tooling cost inside the budget of a mid-volume appliance programme.
What we supplied
- Segment glass designed to the existing window aperture, so the front panel did not change
- Negative-mode layout with white segments and icons for time, programme and status
- LED backlight matched to the outline for even brightness across the window
- FPC connection with the pinout defined by the appliance controller
Why segment LCD
For a fixed set of icons and digits, a segment display delivers the contrast and the unit cost that a dot-matrix module cannot match at appliance volumes — and there is no firmware overhead beyond the existing driver.
